Tuesday morning we had a very strong storm come through our area and it caused a loss in power. When the power didn’t come back on after a few minutes and the rain and thunder continued, I suspected that it might be a while before power would be restored. Not wanting to waste the morning, I jumped in the truck and headed to visit Ramiro and Yomira in Santa Clara which is 37km (23 miles) – about a 40 minute drive. Due to the torrential rain, it took almost an hour to get to my destination. Thankfully, I had downloaded some sermons to listen to and the trip passed by quickly.
At Ramiro’s father-in-law’s house was Ramiro, his wife, and her two sisters. The house was in a reasonably well-built, government housing project, yet the house still leaked. The neighborhood had been raised up to avoid flooding from a nearby river, and on this day that was important!
At the edge of the subdivision, going to my truck I noticed that the two-foot diameter culvert for channelling water was completely overwhelmed by the present rain.

Their religious background is very works-based, so we spent some time in Colossians talking about how wants us to love him for who he is and what he has done on the cross, and how that is foundational in our relationship with him. Our works, and service, and gratitude are because we love him.
While there, I realized that I hadn’t gotten a picture of Ramiro after his eye surgery. Both eyes are functioning well. His mind seems to be recovering and his manner of speaking is sounding more mature and coherent.
